hi everyone
I recently bought a deltek mini bike with a 160cc victa motor.
the motor seems quite slow at take off, so i have a 18hp tecumseh motor that im thinking of forcing in to the frame.
will this be to big? or should i just rebuild the victa motor ?
unsure at this stage as the frame has had a fair bit of modifcation done already and the new motor is very gutsy.
anyone try'd this before?
any feedback would be great :)

Rebuild the Victa, they can be made quite powerful. The 18HP would be way to big for the frame and make the bike a handful to ride.

Slow take off is more likely because of a worn out clutch or too high gearing. What is the diameter of your wheels and how many teeth are there on the front and rear sprockets? A Deltek with a healthy drive train and the right gearing should be able to reach 40-50kms and wheelie pretty well too. Many got geared right up in the quest for a higher top speed, thus resulting in burnt out clutches and crap acceleration.

Delteks are really rare, I'd avoid cutting it up as much as I could. Post some pictures of the beast if you can.

Thanks

Hayden

i saw a youtube once where someone put a 13hp into a baja doodle bug, it was almost impossible to ride because it pulled a huge wheelie when any bit of throtle was given.

imagine a sticky trottle!

Except for the sticky throttle part, thats would be sweet...

ok everyone just an update...
i started pulling the bike apart today ready for a clean and paint job
also ripped apart the motor ready for a rebuild
as for the wheels and sprokets:
12 tooth front 72 tooth rear it has big wheels 3.50 x 10

here is a pic of the frame seems like some one has welded a new engine mount and a little block in front of the seat

I dont have a pic of the bike together as i was rather keen on pulling it apart
however i will get the photo from the advertisment from when i purchased the bike

as you can see it needs a bit of work but i dont think it will take me long

ok frame is completly stripped and clean ready to be painted.
im still unsure if i should remove the block welded onto the frame, cos i dont want to damage the frame with the grinder :worried2:

The handel bars are finished and turn out reasonbly well, the many layers of paint kept the metal in good condition

now as for the motor had another quick look today and someone has welded the decompressor valve shut a bit ruff but seemed to work it is also covered in silicon

so i was going to remove it and make something that fills the space in between
but could not get it undone
this could be because it is not on the motor and i had no leverage

now my next thought is to fill the hole with a metal compound like 'need it' or simular anyone tryed this before bit worried about it breaking off and distroying the engine, but would be able to completly fill it up gaining extra compression
what to do ?

So i've been a bit slack at updating so here it all is

i did fill the decompression hole up with "kneed it"
Put a news set of rings on and honed out the marks in the bore
got it all back together and wow :wai: the compression is crazy

So ive shoved it all back into the bike and hooked everything back up then started seaching for an engine cover.
lucky me found one @ the local lawn mower repairers, bit worse for ware but turned out ok after i cleaned it up

put it on the bike and tryed to start it

nothing  so i did the usual thing and checked spark and fuel all seemed good tryed again nothing

So i pulled the engine cover off and stuck my drill on it to start it

almost ripped my arm off as it started instantly
must say it ran realy well
so now i've started to dutch the shed out so i turned it off and put the cover back on and tryed again no with no luck:furious2:

so after trying a few more times :idea2: i realized the spark plug lead was earthing out on the cover, bent it up a bit and wolla :D bike starts

by this stage my arm is killing me from the super high compression but im too excited not to take it out for a ride

so i wheel it out jump on and blaaa it dies :mad2:
same thing happerns every time not sure what it is, it will idle perfectly but as soon as i turn the throttle it dies

guessing it has something to do with the carby but it worked originaly and i have not touched it

thinking maybe i should try my other bikes carby but that is a bit bigger and would need some sort of spacer
could also try the quads carby but that is 4stroke would it mater?

any ideas would be great not 100% sure what to try

will take a photo later to post
