Delco alternators used for wind turbines now have a abundance of different after market PM rotors, stators, windings and controller options that I have been making efficient motors with for the last 8 years. In a 10 pound motor you would be lucky to find any off the shelf motor that performs as well at ANY price.
This is only my opinion. I have find this use to the easiest way possible to make YOUR OWN custom motor for YOUR USE!
With a exlent power, torque, Rpm and efficiency options.
Now that this is established It would be nice to dedicate this thread to people who do want to go ahead to design a motor. With these easy to get motor parts at reasonable prices there are so many options to use and improve upon. People that come here can attempt to make these motors as a group and do some accurate testing to start a Delta Alternator/ Motor Book or data base on every thing that evolves in terms of actual documented builds and test results.
Motorheads, Armchair Critics and Web Stalkers will zoom over to try and ruin a good thing being on their own agendas.
This would need special moderating to keep to the points of the motor discussions. Otherwise nothing would be accomplished attempting it. And this is what I will leave you with.
A complete Brand New Delco Si-12 Pm Alternator can be purchased on Ebay for $200. Pay Now or under $160. if you win the bid. Only the SC (Super Core) rotors have the extra large high quality 14 N-42 H magnets that weigh about 2 ounces each in a captive magnet rotor lamination of 14 poles with a selection of 6 different stator windings to choose from to design your RPM and torque option.
A Sensorless Castle Creations HV-45 Amp 50 Volt controller can also be purchased on Ebay for $114. All that is required to get the Motor running is hooking up the 3 stator wires to the controller, getting a Astroflight or Esky servo tester or servo driver for the RC controller to regulate the speed. The throttle or servo driver needs a small 5 volt battery or BEC to power it. Everything is plug and play! If you want a Migura throttle Bob at Astrofilght will connect the $29. (on sale) Migura throttle to his servo driver pot leads for twist and go!
None of this is spam or shilling. Just passing on the best parts and prices for them. The line of sensorless Castle Creations controllers go up to 140 amps at 50 Volts. = 7000 watts!
The Alternator/Motor in the Video is a 5 Pound A/motor that will climb any hill and go 45 MPH on less than 1100 watts of power on a bicycle. The 10 pound Delco with more rotor poles and much stronger and larger magnets has a much higher power. I have not tested the limits so Be Careful! WARNING! you can loose your fingers if placed under the rotor when inserting the rotor into the stator and housing.
