Hey guys, been a while since i last worked on my go kart project and thought that i want to start working on it again. I am having trouble deciding the gear ratio i want for my go kart. The engine is an Briggs and stratton 8Hp Generator motor, which has a tapered shaft, but i will get to that later. Anyways i want to have a balanced takeoff and top speed, i have 20" tires also. Anyways about the tapered shaft, i dont have tools to measure the size of it but i was wondering if there was a way to use a normal cluch without having to replace the whole shaft at $269.00. Any help is greatly appreciated i know ill get a couple :useless:
but pictures are coming tomorrow morning.

With 20" tyres, i wouldn't go higher that about 7:1.

No, there is no way you can put a clutch on the shaft without replacing it, having it machined straight and keyed, or find some adapter that might fit

There you go 11.99!

I was gonna say just buy a 212 Predator 6. HP 99 bucks. Spend 50bucks on Exhaust and intake and Jet and you got your 8HP.

there is none listed for your shaft currently..
ask zkstuff [on ebay]
if they have one or if they can make one for you... but it's not cheap (60+ bucks)

of you know your B&S model number.. it's maybe cheaper to find a straight shaft

see ;)

Good luck

'sid

No it is not cheaper about $230

Older engines are great. If you think about it due to the Governor they have NEVER been over revved. So there is usually quite a bit of life left in them.

"Midwesterners"
What a stupid term! Draw a line down the center of a map of the U.S.
All of the "Midwestern" states are East of Center! Not even West let alone Mid West.
Stupidest thing ever!
Why do I care... Well I have held this opinion for years..... Now my kid brings home a school assignment and I am supposed to help further this Idiotic terminology to the next Generation.

Needless to say that assignment did NOT get done and the teacher got a nice note from me.

At least the Pacific Northwest IS in the Pacific Northwest.

Well....first I think that terminology started when I was a kid and there were half as many states.

Secondly, it's where all the newbies heading west broke down (thinking they were halfway) ....because they upgraded the springs on their covered wagons but didn't get billet wagon wheel spokes.
