After every mild use of the motor, it begins to run rough. I have to clean the plug after every use. Should a simple cleaning of the piston head fix this? It's dirty from what I can see from the spark plug hole.

The only reason I haven't done it already, is i'm not exactly sure how. Do I simply remove the top bolts, and just rub it down?

How long does it generally take for the plug to get fouled, and do you see smoke coming from the exhaust while it's running?

Check this out as well, it should be a good place to start.

Also, burning oil usually creates dark blueish smoke, burning excess amounts of gas creates black smoke.
