Custom pedal stop

So i'm making a pedal stop for my Murray Explorer (going to a 22mm Mikuni soon) and I just cant decide what size of bolt to use as the stop. I haven't made a hole in it yet, I want to get everything figured out before I start drilling and welding.

I would also like to trim the metal so it's not so wide, I kinda want it to look like the one that RedBeardsGarage did for one of their 440cc gokarts. (Shown in last picture)

Kinda hard to tell from the pic, 2" long should be fine...

Yeah I wish I could get better pics (new phone has a poor camera). I appreciate your opinion! I'll definitely be getting a grade 8 or grade 12 bolt so it won't bend. The metal is 3/16" thick, it should be stiff enough to not bend either when I go over bumps at WOT

Gr8 is fine but probably overkill in strength. Any bolt should be able to handle it..

Its done! A 7/16" bolt was big enough to cover the whole pedal arm. I think my welds are pretty strong for a $100 flux core welder

Good work! I'd personally use the head of the bolt as the contact point though, you'll beat up the threads the way it is currently.

Thats a good idea! I'll try that tomorrow before I paint the welds
