Hi guys. I am building a drift trike for my daughter and will be fabricating a custom fuel tank for it when the time comes. It is gonna have a 6.5hp Predator engine with the following mods

Governor removed
High flow exhaust
High flow air intake filter
18 lb. valve springs
gx-140 emulsion tube
carb re-jetted with probably 0.035 or 0.036
Walbro fuel pump

I am looking in eBay for a cap and steel filler neck but am I correct in thinking that I need to make sure that I get a cap that is vented to prevent suction problems from occurring in the tank. I figure the fuel pump is gonna want to pull fuel out but if no air can get in, then it sounds like a problem to me. What you think??

you need a breather tube, fitting in cap, or top of tank with hose run off to side, easy to do, here's pics of a tank i made for old cart, notice breather fitting off to side
used brass cap on steel pipe with rubber o-ring, all hardware store stuff... except tank off junk air compressor.... hose not in pics, was installed later after painting

Yep it needs to be vented one way or the other, you can get caps that are vented both ways or that just let air in or you can run a separate bung for vent line

Wait, wait, wait, lets take a minute to go over those engine mods:

Governor removed
High flow exhaust
High flow air intake filter
18 lb. valve springs
gx-140 emulsion tube
carb re-jetted with probably 0.035 or 0.036
Walbro fuel pump

Governor removed & 18lb valve springs? Yet no billet conrod or flywheel? That engine will be a ticking time bomb

I have the same set up on my minibike, drill your small jet out to.022 for better throttle responce. I went with a .038 on the main jet, but I'm a little rich so a .036 should be fine.. Be careful not to push it too hard without a billet rod.

Ok. I was gonna wait a while before the rod and flywheel but I guess I should look into it now before the tear down and do it all at once. Thanks for the advice.

.022? Ok I will do that and go with the .036 main. Thanks.

I have a bsp clone on my barstool that I just finished it has the following and runs absolutely flawlessly.........

Arc billet flywheel
Ruixing ported carburetor (went with recommended high and low jet from arc racing)
AKRA legal header and 91 muffler
Aftermarket high lift cam (my specs and a secret). Lol
Ported jt cylinder head
Stroker crank
Round fuel pump

And my jets are dead on perfect............

Unrestricted .615 carb on gas: .038" - .039" with .021" -.022" low speed jet

***if you wanna see the build and engine detailed pics I have a build up in the build off threads.

If it's in the budget, definitely; otherwise, it's a case of either/or between the governor removal & valve springs...
