Crossfire 150 oil

Hello all, quick question here. Our crossfire starter solonoid quit functioning properly so while Im replacing that I figured Id go ahead and change the oil. As it turns out there was very little oil in the engine. Not enough to register on the dipstick. I went ahead and drained what little bit was in it and filled it back up. It fired right up but my problem now is it is smoking terribly out the exhaust. A whole bunch of white/blueish smoke. Runs fine though. Anyone know why it would have started smoking after the oil change? It didn't smoke any before the oil change. The book called for 15w40 but the gentleman at the parts shop said id be fine using synthetic 20w50 racing oil, as that's what he always used for his go carts and dirt bikes. Any ideas? Thanks

Have you checked the oil level after it's settled? I over filled my kart once... started up fine, but once we got moving, smoke poured out! Guessing it was blowing by the rings...
Anyways, drain a little and it worked fine.

Could you possibly have the wrong dipstick, therefore over filling it?

Burning oil. Happened twice to me. One when I overfilled the tiller with oil, and once after my nephew flipped the kart, getting oil into the bore.

As suggested, white/blue smoke is a result of excessive oil passing by the piston rings; there are three major causes:
1. too much oil in the crankcase
2. oil is too thin (most likely scenario, given the info provided)
3. worn out piston rings (likely since the engine was run almost dry)

First step, remove some of the existing oil, see if that solves the issue; if not, replace the oil with the recommended 15W40 oil; if that still doesn't solve the issue, perform a compression test...
