You don't have to spend money to put the pivots in double shear, you have to spend time. Cut the pivots off the frame, cut them in half, and reweld the halves on either side of the swingarm pivot. Same bolts can be used, just extra labour.

Exactamoondo !!!!! That is what I`ve been trying to point out , you just need another tab or pipe on either side of the swingarm pivot for more support for the bolt ,, yeHaw !!:iagree::roflol::cheers2::oops:

So I got my bearings today, they were left on the landlords front porch for 3 days......aye yai yai

Anyways have a look, talk about needing truth in advertising. The picture of the bearing on the website looked shielded but this is what came. Upon further reading I see in small print and perenthesis (open).

Next time 5/8s spindles.......

Got some work done last night on the swingarm. I fixed it with double shear pivots like everybody suggested. Looks good although the welds arent as solid because it was a shorter run. It will work though.

Fabricated a motor mount plate and supports, welded the bearing hangers. Mounted the motor and sprocket and fitted the chain, nice and snug fit I was suprised. Looks ok to me, I dont know if chain angles play a role in kart performance but the engoine sprocket is almost dead center with the drive sprocket.

Im getting pumped, I have very little patience and not having this thing together is killing me.

Is there any flex in that axle? If it was me personally, I would have the sprockets as close to a bearing as possible, or at least have more support.

I dunno, it's 1 inch solid steel. There will be shocks on each side of the swingarm directly above the bearing hangers if that makes a difference. I'd have to mount the motor on the left side of the swing arm to put it close to a bearing. And uh, i already welded the motor mount on the other side. I could make a twin for it though on the left. I got lots of metal.

I wouldn't think a 6.5 hp motor would have the torque to bend it. But then again I know choda about karts and their quirks. I'm just wingin this.

your swingarm fix is exactly what I was trying to point out :cheers2: . This will give you more strength in the pivot points area . Keep plugin away at it , it allways seems slow to us The Builders but the reward of saying > I Built That < is more satusfying that some people will never know ! :thumbsup:

Yeah I look back on this and was like wtf i could have bought a go kart done for 600 bucks. This is MINE though, the fruit of my labor. Going to work on it more today, the rear is done as i can make it for now, have to mount the brake supports. Going to work on the single a arm front suspension today.

So I have done some more work to it. I got got the front suspension done or so I thought, see first picture.

So when I set it down on the ground and put some weight on it, the left tire(right in pic) flexes out and ends up being crooked. I am thinking the only easy way I am going to fix it is to cut the dog bone and shorten it up, that will pull the bottom in and straighten it out.

The right tire(left in pic) came out right. I figured when I welded the dogbone to the spindle I must have been off by just a fraction because I built them both with a jig.

Anybody else think of a way to fix the left tire? Also going to work on setting up the steering, I made some tie rods but I am not sure how I am going to hook them to the pitman arm yet.

Work done yesterday wasnt much, didnt cut the dogbone but cut the frame back because the tires were going to rub.

Man I built this thing backwards, but hey what are ya gonna do:oops:

Im not to sure about those upper shock mounts, they seem to far out? Those rear wheels look awfully small? I vote for a dual 6.5 engines. ;) Looks good thou, keep it up. You will always have more respect for something you've built over something you can buy.

Since you were not 'felling the love' over here, I felt I should reply. ;)

I think mayby you should have put more of a angle on your shocks , they might end up being quite stiff in their present location ? But better to have some suspension than none :thumbsup: Is starting to look like a kart though Cheers !!:cheers2:
Oh and ya really need a wheel alignment ! lol

Ha I was just being an *** with the no love thing. Probably wont get finished with this project, I may be moving sooner rather then later and once again I will lose access to a shop and places to hook up my tools and welders. Oh well, going to have my own shop soon and it will be pimped out again, see if this one burns down......

The front suspension is located directly above where its mounted on the spindle bracket. I assume a straight up and down motion would be kosher? I had to stiffen the shocks up front because they were a little too squishy and didnt rebound when they were compressed slightly. I wanted the tires like this \___/ so when a little weight is put on them they become like this |____|

The wheels are all 13 inch, but I have 15 inch tires to put on back, just havent done it.

Man I dont know If i have room on the swingarm or clearance to do dual engines, that would be bad *** though. Getting them to rev in sync would be a job for sure.
