I recall seeing a Youtube vid some time back of a guy that had a 70's Chev pickup with a Detroit two stroke diesel, with a 4 speed Muncie AND a gear splitter to boot.
It's no tire-fryer, but screams like a demon, and just oozes cool!

Ahh. Found it! http://www.youtube.com/user/dasani110#p/u/16/mP4_ZukfL4Y

In the early 1980s my brother put a Ford 6000 diesel tractor engine in a 1960 Ford pickup. Top speed was about 45 mph, but it would carry anything you could possibly put in it.

That mustang has some nice rear end body work and looks nice, but that's sheer butchery! Somebody needs to be slapped.

Speaking of old military trucks, there's a Chevy Blitz truck sitting on the edge of a vineyard just down the road from me, been stting there for decades, almost all the body has rusted away, trees have grown between the gaps in the chassis rails. I've always wanted to offer them something for it and restore it.

For those who don't know, this is a Blitz (or, more correctly, a C15A), they were used extensively in WW2.

Also speaking of run on anything, there are a few crude oil hit and miss engines on the farm, they will run on anything vaguely oil based, melted sheeps fat, melted peanut butter, ect ect. Truely awesome engines.

Thanks

Hayden

So that Blitz was just left behind after WWII? That would be a really cool restore.

Na, it was used on the farms coz it's got a huge crane on the back, the original engine died and a Holden got put in it and it just wore out, that's the story anyway.

Apparently lots of them were used on farms and as fire trucks, huge towing capacity, low gearing, cheap and 4WD, ideal farm vehicles really.

Would sure be an awesome resto! Would be dead easy to work on too.

Thanks

Hayden

Oh yea! There's not one thing fancy about that truck. It's so utilitarian.
