im wondering how everyone gets there carts for next to nothing on craigslist. ive lookd for 3 months. found TONS of karts. some nice some crap. even the crap ones they want 400 500 each. the ones that are decently priced either dont reply or are scammers. basically what im saying is. how does everyone get karts off craigslist for a decent price?

People just happen to get real lucky or they live in an area where they can get 'em cheap. I've looked too and I've never been able to find anything under $400 either. :(

Here's some of my random buying tips:

If your not already, use craiglist's search box with each one of these spelling terms: gocart, go cart, gokart and go kart.

Also try to do these searches as often as you can and have your cash all ready to go.

Around here when a trully smokin deal pops up it'll usualy get snapped up super fast. I've noticed many times the seller will either edit their ad as being sold or delete it. (sometimes only within an hour or so of it origanaly being posted)

It seems like lots of potental buyers tend to ignore the C/L ads without pics, many times these ads also have hardly any meaningful info posted. These types of ads can work to your advantage cutting down on your buying competition if your willing to spend the time contacting the sellers requesting pics and/or better yet going out to see if its really a deal or not.

You could also start searching all the C/L's from the other towns you might be willing to drive to for a trully smokin deal. (you'll also get a better Idea of what a bargain is by researching through as many kart ads as you can dig up)

Try doing the google search: for sale (and then all the go kart spellings) and then type in your state. This should find you serveral online ads besides craigslist.

Also try posting your own "Go kart Wanted" ad. I've had really good luck buying all kinds of stuff with my own Wanted ads, It seems to trigger people to quickly sell something off without having to deal with posting their own ad.

Good luck in your quest, keep looking you'll find yer deal

on craigslist i use the terms, go kart, gokart, go cart, gocart, go-cart, and go-kart

and i search within about a 50 mile radius. also, dont click the has image only ones. some people who dont know anything about carts dont post a pic and just write "blue go kart, dosent run and dont know why" or something like that. call them up and go check it out if you want, ive even offered people half and they sometimes take it.

i got my most recent cart about 35 miles away, 125 dollars for frame and torque converter, it had no engine though. it was a manco 285 with suspension. great deal. luckily i had a extra engine laying around

Use this website to search CL - it used to be called Craig's Helper or something like that.

http://www.searchtempest.com/

I have gotten my best deals by word of mouth "you like gokarts, I have one that does not work, I'll sell it to ya..." "OK $50 cash" "OK".

I fixed a quad once and got a kart in exchange, use your talents - they are worth something. Ask kids that are riding quads, many of them had karts and have "moved up" to quads. I prefer a kart any day myself. Most of their karts don't work any more. Remember, a new clone can be had for $95 if the engine is shot.

When you go to see a kart, bring a truck, or a trailer and cash. Offer a low price "Look, I can pay you $100 cash for that since I will need to put at least $250 into it, I will take if off your hands now for that". If they say no, say, well ok - thank you and walk towards your car, you will probably hear "wait..." Most folks want to get rid of stuff sooner than later.

If the seller has an inflated opinion of their kart and is looking to make money off of it, go else where.

yeah when i go somewhere and say the asking price is 200. ill put 150 cash in my wallet and offer them that, open it up wide and pull it all out and say i can offer you 150, its a project for my family type of thing..or just leave.

there is this one guy on cl who i was gonna buy the cart from, for 350 i believe, 18hp, suspension, etc..good deal. (he had no pictures on cl, just a small ad)..well in the meantime no one bought the cart from him because of his poorly placed ad. the only way i saw the pic was by emailing him. he never got back to me and i endfed up buying a diff cart..now he keeps emailing me and dropping the price. hes offering me 250 now..lol im going to wait longer

One thing to remember when making an offer is be honest, you can tell them outright that you know it's probably worth more then the $150 you're offering, but considering the work and parts you'll have to put into it it's only worth $150 to you. I guarantee they will respond more favorably to that then if you go in and tell them it's a piece of junk and you're doing them a favor by giving them $150 for it. I've had people try that and they ended up paying full price.

hey ive read alot of posts about people not being able to find cheap cart frames. i live in east texas and the houston craigslist usually has a ton of deals. ive been trying to sell this one for months. this recession sucks! a year and a half ago i had people coming from arkansas to buy stuff now i can't even get the locals interested. i was actually asking 550 with a brand new motor from harbor freight, but i returned it to get my money back while i could. sorry we could make a deal

Posting your own ad can really work well, & no competition against other buyers. I had been looking for months for a reasonably priced 125 to 250 cc dirt bike motor or complete bike, no such luck. I posted a wanted ad, and got two calls in 4 days, bought the first one, a 90 RM 250 with all the electronics and radiators for $250, picked up an expansion chamber on Ebay for $29, shipped, and got another call on an 89 RM250 motor for about the same price 3 days later. ;)
