hello,

My name is Sebastiaan and this is my first post on this nice forum :)
I'm from Belgium (Europe), so sorry if my english is not that good.
I'm 19 years old, I'm doing my second year mechanical engineering at the university and I like everything with an engine especially with a big 2stroke.

A couple of months ago I started a new project; a cr125 cross engine on a delta/mari shifter kart frame.
The frame:

I build an model enginemount out of thin sheet metal. I can use this one to see where everything has to be mounted (supports for the airfilter, exhaust,..). The real motormount will be made out of 4.5mm stainless steel.

The mount:

The upper frame clamps are different, they are allready fineshed:

The 4.5 mm steel is laser cut.

Let me know what you think about it!

Sebastiaan ;)

Theres probably a standard K&N or a UNI filter inside that housing. Most tracks require 2 stroke karts to run that type of filter housing to be a bit of help silencing engine noise from the intake side.

Some tracks are super strick about how loud your race kart can be, you should check out some of the huge RLV mufflers/silencers required to race on many Canadian sprint/shifter-kart tracks: http://www.out2win.com/catalog/exhaust_ohv.html#WF

Cause sooner or later someone usually moves in right next door to a kart track (way out in the middle of nowhere) ... and then starts issuing noise complaints. That and the kart tracks are probably trying to protect the drivers from any possible hearing damage.

Drag strips don't usually have any noise restrictions but many other forms of racing require mufflers nowadays.

yes there is a standard filter in that housing. We have to use this kind of filters otherwise we can't ride on the track. I also need a 'green' silencer -_- Very expensive.. (thanks to the green guys :p).
Tonight i can probably pick up the laser cut steel. So i can word on it this weekend!
New pictures will be added soon

The steel is cut;

I drilled the holes to mount the engine;

I still have to drill the hole for the engine on the rear.
Normally the other stuff i need will arrive this week.
I think that (if there are not too many problems) i can test ride it in 2 - 3 weeks :) .

Thanks, I don't know where TR stands for. The engine is not ported.
I can work on it again in the weekend (in the week I study in another city where I live alone..). I really hope that I can testdrive it soon :)
It's gonna be a beast! :p (I hope..)

Hello,

I worked again in the weekend. The engine mount is finished;

I made brackets for the airfilter and exhaust, installed the radiatortubes,... I only need a Y pipe for the fuel line and then I should have everything.
I think I can testride it next weekend.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to ride this thing. Does anyone has an idee how fast it will go from 0 to 60 mph? I'm thinking it will do it in about 4 - 4.5 seconds? The engine has 38 hp.

Yes I know that's gonna be an issue. I have Mojo D2 slicks on the back, these tires are like medium soft.

Hey I looked up those Mojo D2 slicks, they look pretty cool man. Their gripping ability will totally depend on how old yours are. With use and as they age, they get harder and harder loosing their ability to grip. Many serious Shifter racers around here end up having to buy a brand new set of tires for every day of racing to remain competitive.
