couple questions updated with pics

i have been looking around for a while now. I own a farm. What i could really use is a atv. I found a free set of plans they are very detailed but i still have a question. I don't plan on doing my other than riding fence lines checking stuff out and use it for hunting. I am a big guy 300lb. I really don't need speed at all. Even if it could do it i would never go over 25mph. I know alot depends on the weight of the machine, the rider and the gears. I have been looking around online (let me say i don't have alot of money prob will not be able to start for a mth or so) for a motor. I have a old old 2wheel drive atv with no motor. It is a 125 size. Well as i said before i am a big guy. Weighing 300 and 6'2 tall it is small. The steering and tires are good also the axels. I was thinking about building my own frame and using parts from it. What size motor would you say i should try and find and would a clutch work or do i need to pony up the bucks for a tc and what type of one?

thank you for your time,
Kywilber

why dont you try and find a quad/atv motor, suited for your purpous?
if you wanted to use a "general purpous" motor you could use a 6.5hp minimum and a tc30.

I have looked and those types of motor are way out of price range and the used ones you never know how they were taken care of. The blue powerhorse at northern is 6.5 208cc i think for 179 and i am not sure the price of a tc yet. I am sure the powerhorse is not the best motor but for the money they can't be that bad.

Hey that looks good, I dont think you need a TC just a clutch if you are on a budget and also i would be tempted to alter the plans to give it a stepthrough design to give it and easy get on get off feel and i would be tempted to widen a little to make it more stable but that is just me, i have to mess with everything! But yeah looks good and simple and easy to adapt for your own needs. Every one around here loves the 6.5 clones!

well just like a scooter put the axle to the rear as far as posable move the engine back slightly and get rid of the bars between the seat and handle bars and a chair style seat for comfort that way you can hop of from both sides without the karate style entrance :) but you might be happy the way it is. Just putting in a sugestion

What kind of two wheel ATV do you have? Fatcat? Bigwheel?

Could you weld an axle in your two wheel ATV and make a trike ATV? You could gear it low and even haul a trailer.

Post a pic of the 2 wheel ATV you have.

you know that is a sweet idea. I have a bunch of hunting buddies that come up and they would be able to use it. At one point and time i wanted to build something like a golfcart or the sidebyside atvs. I just think that would add alot of cost as i would need a different axle. The frount i can make.

Yeah and you have to watch you dont end up building a tank as you will need a bigger motor especialy if you went for the whole twin seater, But yeah i think Keep to their basic size perhaps 1/2 foot longer to accomedate leg room up the front and it will not cost any more, That is if that comment was directed my way...

it is a 4wheeler. only 2 wheel drive not 4x4. it is a 1985 suzuki 185cc atv. don't have a pic of it.

Oh Okay, Hmmm I see engines on ebay for about $200 for those LT185's. None right now though that I seen.

Why not get an engine for the 185? What condition is it in?

it is small. when i sit on it the handle bars are knee knockers. that is the reason to build something. They are not made for big guys. Now the 500s they make are great size but they want an arm and leg for them. Not just a couple hundred.

I have read that the cetrifugul clutch have a hard time starting when there are big tires. Do you think i will have that problem or i just need to make sure i gear it low enough.
