the type of paint will dictate what gun you need to use. that type of gun is for thick stuff like primer, gelcoat, industrial paint, and house/furniture paint.
if you're going to paint something more serious where finish matters, get an HVLP gun. people try to go cheap on the gun and get the $15 general purpose one instead of the $35-$50 HVLP but that price difference will be negated right away with the wasted paint due to poor coverage or splattering.
paint tips i found out the hard way:
- mix correctly when using HVLP, otherwise it's useless
- mix in separate containers, not in the cup. it will clog the gun right away
- hardware store paint thinner doesnt work on auto paint. use lacquer thinner
- dont guess the PSI, theres a reason why they wrote it on the gun
