Cost of Metal for frame

Is this Cost for metal normal?

Im gonna keep this fast and simple.

I looked at the metal at my nearest metal supermarket, it was about $60 for 24ft of hot-rolled metal square tubing. The sheet metal was about $27 for a 2ft x 2ft and 1/8in thick sheet.

so my question is: Are these normal/good prices or not? The reviews on the website say the prices are almost double that of other supermarkets.

its a little steep but not a complete rip off. If there are very few metal suppliers in your area it could be partially monopolization. The metal may be kept indoors which could factor in to the end price. If the location is convenient for you and the service is up to par i wouldn't worry about it too much. Its still probably cheaper then having it shipped to you!


I was in a pinch and needed a piece of steel to make a engine mount the other day. paid 30$ for a 1x1ft piece of 1/4 @ lowes

A "metal supermarket" is usually quite different than a steel company where they deal in larger quantities, but will sell as little as a single 20 foot length. The latter will ususally have a much better price than the former....Joe

Don't buy from supermarkets, buy from steel suppliers. Cut out the middle man
