Transmissions in order of fun

Manual
Auto
Walking
CVT

Anybody who "likes driving" hasn't lived until they drive a stick, autos are boring in most cases and really only belong in big cruisers. CVT is the ultimate mundane, point A to point B, driving appliance method of propelling a car ever devised.

autos have their place...but at the risk of sounding sexist i think i'll keep that to myself.

Haha, but seriously, i'd say that order is about right. A lot of power makes a manual even more fun. You can only get so much enjoyment out of a 96hp 22r, unless your off road.

If you read into it a bit more the D-drive is not as useful as it first appears. It requires two inputs, and if input 2 is spinning faster than input 1, then it goes forward. If input 2 is slower than input 1, then it spins backwards. The larger the difference, the faster the output spins.
He calls one of the inputs the 'control' which implies that you could just use a small variable speed electric motor to control the speed, but that does not work because the control motor needs just as much torque as the input motor.

So you need some way of applying variable speeds to the inputs to get a variable output...
It's all in the engineering report on the transmissions website. I don't have the link but it's on Google.

modelengineer i'm glad someone else noticed this. I stared at that video for the longest time thinking that it was to good to be true and then i found an article that said exactly what you did. I don't see how it would have any advantage in any application

except this isn't a great creation it's just an overcomplicated bunch of gears. it's like people who tried to make perpetual motion machines. you can make it as complicated as you want but the original problem is still there

That guy should stick to plumbing... Seems to me, that all he has invented, is an overcomplicated Differential !

A Diff. would do the same thing, iff you applied the engine power on the 2 outgoing axles instead of on the in-going axle...

(Sorry about my poor english guys, i'm from Denmark).
