Converting belt driven clutch to chain driven clutch.

I have a 2 seater carter go cart with a 5.5 Honda motor. the frame is chain driven but the clutch is belt driven. I would like to convert the belt drive system to a chain driven clutch but I don't know how. any help or advise is greatly appreciated. thank you

our set up is like that I wish I had a picture to send so you could see what I am talking about. the only thing is in the picture that you have there is a chain underneath the belt system and mine the chain is by the back wheel near the body and the belt drive system is by the side of the motor. if this helps at all.

the reason we want to convert is because yesterday the belt got stuck on the back pulley and locked down the wheels. there is a problem where we will push the gas and it takes about 2 minutes before the pulleys will spin to allow the go cart to move so we assume that its the belt system but this is our first go cart. the belt that came with the go cart is a 1/2' x 32" but has no grooves underneath the belt. could this be the belt system its self or maybe needs a new belt or a clutch problem maybe.

What you have, if I understand correctly, is a jack shaft set up, using a belt cent clutch and pulley, driving the final chain drive. I hate those.....
If you want to get away from that, you can buy a chain drive cent clutch and the appropriate sprocket to keep the final drive ratio acceptable.
In order for us to give you the best advice,we really need pics to see what you have, and what may be wrong.

Reread your last post. You have a TC ((torque converter ) ..... If the belt got stuck, you need a new belt and to clean the driven clutch. Might as well clean the driver clutch too.....

ok thank yall so much I will take pictures tonight and submit them so maybe someone can give me some help in making this easier. I was looking at chain drive systems and they were saying a bore specification. will I need to do measuring to make sure I get the right feet as far as teeth ratio and bore diameter. if so how can I go about figuring out the sizes that I need.

IMHO, you probably will be happier with a Torque converter set up that is functioning correctly then a Centrifugal clutch set up. Search youtube, for cleaning the Torque Converter, and get a new belt.

list make and model of kart if you know, and get some good photo's and we'll be sure to get you on the right track.

That belt is wrong for sure. You need to get the proper belt and you will find your problems will be fixed

They have a torque converter.... Initial description was just vague.

The belt is #203587A , IF that is a 20 series. If its a 30 series, then the belt is #203598A.
To tell if you have a 20 or 30 series, look at the fixed sheave face. It will either be flat, or have a taper to it. If its flat, its a 30 series. Tapered is a 20 series....

I think it IS a 20..... The driven is mounted in symmetric fashion.

thank you all for your answers you have been a big help. I did have a second opinion on my measuring though.so we came out with a 7 5/16 centerline a 7 drive pulley and a 5/8 top width so I will look on the chart provided and hope this will fix the problem we are having. big big thanks to firemanjim for your comments.

yes 203581a is the one that I purchased. our top width measure might have been off but I did buy the symmetric with 3/4 top width.

To install the belt, remove the retain bolt from the driver clutch bell. Slide off the bell. Put on belt, with correct side facing engine. Then put the bell back on..... Easy peasy.....
EDIT symmetric goes either way...... I believe. Same taper on both sides...... 13*

No, it really is that easy. Just one bolt to remove, with a 7/16 wrench iirc. The bell slides off. Put the belt on. Put the bell back on.... That's it....
