Hi,

I am doing this exact thing at the moment. I have been looking at sourcing all the parts separately as in the uk and couldnt find a kit, plus I find it rather fun muddling through!

I have been gathering parts over the last few weeks and currently have the following:
36V 800w motor
Speed controller
Forward/reverse switch
Throttle
Batteries (will be here tomorrow)
Pedal kart
70tooth sprocket

I am actually making two at the same time, one for each of my boys. Once I have the batteries and bought some wire, I am going to have a dry run of knocking up the bits on the work bench to check it all works as I think it should.

If all goes to plan then I will start stripping down and modifying the karts. Have to have a rough measure and order some tube to add to the existing frame and make some modifications to accept all the kit.

Hoping to start the process imminently and will try to remember to post progress on a build thread as I go.

Had some great help from guys here already so ask away and I'm sure advice will be given.

Ben

Hi Ben what sort of throttle are u using ? I would like the pedal throttle whereabouts in the uk are you? I have no idea at the moment what I'm doing but I'm hoping once I have formed a rough idea of what I need and where I can get it from then I can rope a freind in What sort of go kart are you modifying?

Hi,

I am in Norfolk. These are the two Karts I have to modify, both similar, one just a bit slightly bigger than the other. I am pretty handy with tools and will try to get a handle on most things although the electrical side of things is going to be a learning curve that’s for sure. I have linked below the bits I have assembled so far, hopefully this will all combine together to allow the karts to work as planned.

Batteries - https://www.tayna.co.uk/PL20-12-Powerline-Battery-P9391.html

I have 3No. batteries per kart which will be wired in series to give the 36V for the motor. I have also bought sundry connectors to allow all the bits to be plugged into the controller.

The throttle will be mounted on some tube and fixed. A cable will then run to a foot pedal to operate the movement. The pedal will be stopped in the correct place to prevent undue stress on the throttle assembly.

I think I have calculated (with help on here) that the batteries should give about 40 minutes run time, based on full throttle all the time. This won’t be the case so run time should be increased quite a bit.

I really have no idea about speed, I just found the 800W motors and went with those to try and provide a bit more grunt ono the grass etc.

I hope to test the electrics over the weekend to see if what I think will happen does, if all goes well on the bench, I will start to strip the karts down and try to fabricate all I need on the frames to mount the kit. Trying to get them done for Christmas presents!

Hope this helps. I will try to document the build from this point, I can hopefully assist in my experimentation!
