Hey all, I am going to order (with your approval) a lifan 16hp motor from carroll stream. I currently have a now blown 6.5 with a fairly new comet 30 torque a verter setup. I know I have to step up to a 40 series but will a 30 driven clutch work with a 40 driver? I hate to spring for the whole thing if I don't have to. Thanks.

I'm not sure but I think the difference is the belt widths, so it might not work, but it might not hurt to try? I really don't know just throwing my 2cents

Will not work. Belt width aside (and they do NOT match), the 30 is asymmetrical, while the 40 is symmetrical. The belt profile is the reason it will not work.

If your 30 is still good, you may consider selling it to help offset the cost of the 40.

Ok. I have a 6.5 subaru robin motor on there now. It smokes like a dog and has a knock in it. Guess I'll spring for a 40 driver/driven setup and a jackshaft kit. (I'll be picking your brains on that too)

Piston rings probably need to be replaced.

That would explain the smoke but not the knock.

Having said that, a knock usually originates in the bottom end as a result of the big end being worn out.

As Subaru are still in business & the robin engines are rather robust, parts should be easy to get so, perhaps rebuilding it would be a better option than junking it.

Well, I want to put a bigger motor on it anyway so that's why I'm trying to figure out which 15hp motor to get.

i can vouch for the 420 cc engine from carroll stream ! they are really torquey ( sp) and quite reliable ! been running one for a couple years with no issues !
it's going to be a HUGE jump in power! make sure your frame, suspension and especially your brakes are up to the extra power !
