Hi, i want to use a 125cc engine from my dirtbike to make a gokart. But the problem is: how will i be able to switch gears.. normally you do it with your left foot. but if my engine in on the back of the kart, it'll be difficult to switch gears..
any advice? (it's 1 down; 2,3,4 up)
thanks

Rmm727 is right, that's the easiest way to do it. You have your shifter, made out of pipe of solid rod. Connected to a rod going from the bottom of the shifter to the engine. Turn the foot peg/shifter on the engine upright. You can connect the rods together using tie rod ends that are used on the steering. Here is a diagram I drew in paint in like 3 seconds.. Hopefully it helps :) Otherwise here is a few pictures of other peoples designs. Also here is a link to someone elses pit bike engine powered kart: http://www.motokarts.com/newforum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=110&sid=2dfb530bc2103c2c43fd03dbdf0fc527

Your other option is to go electric/pneumatic it's a fair bit more complicated and costly.

There is also a mechanical paddle shift setup I saw online for around $150, it mounts behind the steering wheel and uses two wires to push and pull, to shift gears.

Best of luck,

Datsun.
