Controller Wiring Assistance

Hi all,

As per my post in the other thread, i need a bit of confirmation/guidance for the controller wiring. Any thoughts?

Hey Ben,

Yup, If it functions, your on the right track.

Most of the small speed controllers are designed for Ebikes & scooters.

Brake light plug is for a brake light. (if needed)

Plug labeled brake goes to a brake switch to "cut off" power to the motor when the brakes are applied.

I believe the black wire off the charging port plug is just an extra ground.

I took a Electric Razor apart once & it had a on/off switch next to the charging port instead of a key switch that, that ground wire went to.

I wouldn't worry about the other stuff.

Their probably to make it fit other applications.

One additional clarification on this, as I am getting ready to add brakes to my sons cart.

When the "Brake" connector pins are shorted it cuts power to the motor correct? I I just need a normally closed switch on the pedal, so when the brake isnt pressed it rests on the switch and keeps the lines open. Once the brake is pressed, it comes off the switch and the switch goes to closed right?

Hey Danny,

Yup! Sounds right to me.

Normally open circuit, that's why everything works in the video without a brake switch even being plugged in.

The concept is to cut power to the motor anytime the brakes are applied so you can't accidentally be applying the brakes while accelerating.

(which would be a massive waste of power & really bad on motor)

...& if there is re genitive braking involved, I believe that switch is used to activate it.

Just to clarify, the extra black wire fromo the charging port can just be left or should i look to connect it somewhere?

Still trying to figure out the best brake situation, that will require some further thought i think.

Hey Ben,

No, You don't need to use the extra black wire for your application.

Just tape it off.
