Considering Updating Sidepods, need measurements!

So, was talking with another kart shop a couple days ago and they said there's no reason why I couldn't update my chassis to the current technical regs and go run it on the track for the cost of the rear bumper and body kit... the Righetti Ridolfi XTR14 kit, including mounts, is only $369 and can be shipped free till month end (coupon code 'freeshipping').

The current sidepod mounting arrangement is a tube on the chassis nr the rear tire and a tab nr the front, just behind the front wheel. I see the new chassis have a two tube mount system, retaining the rear tube and replacing the front mounting tab with a tube.

I'll do the welding myself so I'm looking for dimensions. Hoping someone could take a few minutes with a tape to measure the mounting points on their kart and post the numbers.

First, I want to ensure my rear tube is in the correct place so I'd like to get the distance, center to center, from the rear axle to the tube, as well as the length (of the rube). Next, distance from the rear tube to front tube, center to center, as well as the length.

And anything else that might be useful - holes and positions, etc. The chassis tube frame measure 28.8mm on the micrometer.

Thanks!

You'll need to buy those sidepods first, then build your nerfbars to fit.
The measurements off any other brand/model racekart wont be the same as yours...

Seriously? There isn't a standard width between the mounting points?

I'm not sure about that, nerfbars are sold to fit specific model karts and nobody seems to post their dimensions.

There's some info on this page: http://www.tsracing.com/manuals/EuroBodyIndex.htm (near the bottom) telling you how to get detailed nerfbar drawings from IFK.

But I'd suggested before you do anything, you should contact the tech inspector at your track, have him inspect your kart and ask what all you'd have to do to race at that track. Some tracks require factory made nerf bars with the CIK #'s stamped in. Other tracks have looser rules and might allow you to build your own.

Yeah, I'd need the nerf bars, but the kit I posted above includes them. Or by factory built, do you mean by the chassis manuf?

I'm not sure I want to spend the money on a kit anyway, but before cleaning and painting the chassis, I figured I might as well do this little bit of welding and at least it'll be ready for any updated bodywork.

Sorry, I though you were going to build homemade nerf bars. That kit should pass the rules of any Sprintkart track. but I'd still suggest you get your kart inspected by your tracks officials first. Some tracks dont allow any karts built before the year 2000 to race no matter what upgrades have been done, other tracks have looser rules. They wont charge you to inspect your kart, and the inspector might have some used nerfbars/plastic body parts he'd sell you at a much lower cost.

Yeah that kit is exspencive. You could call/email and ask them what the width is between the mounting points of those nerfbars. But it'd still be best to have them before welding the mounts on your kart, just so you'd be sure to get everything right

Well. the local track is the lombardy track and I know who to talk to there. The other option is the national capital kart club and a local kart retailer / member was the one who told me they (nckc) would allow me to run the kart provided it met current technical regs, which appear to largely be bodywork related. I wouldn't be racing this kart, just wanted to get some track time and have fun ripping around. At the very least, it increases the resale value if it can be made track legal with a few mods (in my case, adding two mounts to the chassis sets the basis for having it meet current regs - add bodywork and go).

I'm surprised that there would be that much variation in the mount point spacing... the sites I've seen just seem to sell the bodywork and nerf bars (why are they called that, anyway?) without any specific reference to fitment for a specific manufacturer's chassis.... which suggests to me that the nerf bar they sell should fit any current chassis (or any chassis made current).

Yeah maybe the nerfbars are interchangeable on all the newer sprintkart brands, I'm just not sure. All 3 of my racekarts are 10+ years old, they all have the old-style angled/slide-in front mounts, and are all different lengths/widths to match the frame and track width. None of my nerfbars will interchange.

I found some tech info you could check out here: http://torontokartclub.com/pdf/2011Regs/ASN-CDN-Karting-2011-Tech.pdf
