I just pick up this frame and re-painted it. Now I just went to pick up a 6.5HP engine from harbor freight. Now I need help to put it together. I need this for my son, I am not a handy person. The frame already has a engine mount but it seams way to close to the sprocket. If anyone could tell me the parts I need to complete it that would be great. Thanks

you need a clutch and chain, get whatever chain fits the sprocket and get a 3/4 clutch the same, use the keyway that came with the engine and push the clutch on till it and the sprocket line up, take off the wheel, put the chain on, and your ready to go

I think he means heighth. If so you need some type of mounting plate under the engine

Ok Thanks. So How do I find out the size of the sprocket? And Is the engine too close the the sprocket, Or Do I need to weld it farther back? Thanks!

You will need by the looks of things, some sort of riser, some 1/2x 1" strips the length of the mounting plate might be a start. What you need first is a clutch, and depending on what type will determine how much rise. The amount of teeth on the sprocket tell what size it is, most sprockets should say what size of chain and amount of teeth on it.

Brakes, it looks like you have a band brake drum already installed. you will need the band brake, cable assembly, pedals (cant tell if you have pedals or not).
Throttle- cable assembly, pedals.
Kill switch.

these are just a few things off of the top of my head.

Welcome :)
Firstly I would buy the clutch and see if it will fit.
Your chain and sprockets will probably be #35 or #40/41
you can tell this by measuring the distance from the tip of one tooth to the hext on the sprocket. 3/8" = #35 and 1/2" = #40/41

You then want to buy a clutch and chain of the same number.
To determine how many teeth you want on the clutch look here
http://www.diygokarts.com/speed-calculator.html
Enter the number of teeth on the axle sprocket and the number of teeth you could have on the clutch.
Enter your tyre diameter and the rpm as 3600.
You could have up to 30mph ish with your setup.

You can get a clutch and chain here:
www.bmikarts.com

Then when you get the clutch you can see if it fits. If it doesnt you are left with two options:
1. Get a smaller axle sprocket
2. Get some steel square or rectangle tube and drill your engines mounting holes in it so you can raise the engine up.

Another problem you may have is allignment of the clutch and sprocket. You could nake a spacer for the engine shaft or remove/ add some of the nuts being used as spacers if the allignment is wrong.

Nice paint btw :) what did you use?

I'm having trouble taking the measurements for the clutch on the sprocket, so where do you measure from and then to where. Thanks

Wow they are real small! I don't think they are 3/4 or anything like that

does the chain look almost as small as bicycle chain? another thing is take the chain off and look at every link on both sides, one link and its usually the master will have a number on it, it will be your chain size

Well I'm measuring the sprocket teeth. Because then I have to use that measurement to get the right size clutch and then get a new chain

The sprocket I have on it Has 80 Teeth. How would I measure for the clutch?

You need a 3/4 cluth if its a 6.5 hf. You can get clutches with various diff sprockets. Prob 11 tooth would be good. Max torque is good. As stated above your chain size needs to match the ckutch and sproket. So if you have a say 41 sproket you need a 3/4 bore clutch with 11 teeth and a 41. Make sense?

Ok So Im still confused about the measurements. So Far I have a 80 tooth Sprocket on the axle and I have a 6.5hp engine. What would be the best setup for going lets say, 40-55mph max? Could someone Link a good one to me that Is under $45. And If you need any more measurements, Just ask me and Ill get them! Thanks to everyone! You really save me!

Not sure your gonna get thst speed with that gig of a sproket on the back. There is a speed calculator somewhere. Try googleing minibike gokart gear speed calculator. For the clutch several places northeren tool. fleabay old mini bikes.com warehouse. Good luck

If you have a 35 sprocket that clutch will work. I wouldn't change the rear sproket until I had it all together and tried it out. Did you for sure figure out what size the sprocket you have? I don't mean how many teeth. The pitch. How far is it between the teeth on center?

OK..... it looks like there is too much confusion here.

Firstly - you are going to have to raise your engine using some square tubing as mentioned earlier on. This will give you enough space to fit your clutch

Secondly - you have a HF 6.5HP, so you will need a clutch which has a hole of 3/4 inch size. It will then slip onto your shaft perfectly.

Thirdly - you are going to have to figure out what pitch chain and clutch you need. Pitch is the distance from tip to tip of your sprocket. We know that you need a 3/4 clutch, but now we have to figure out the pitch. What you do is look at your 80 tooth sprocket, and then measure the distance between the tip of 2 teeth. As R_chez said if the distance is 3/8" = #35 and 1/2" = #40/41. Have a look at this website for some more info.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roller_chain#Chain_strength

Fourthly - you are going to have to think of your gearing. You say that you have a 80 tooth rear sprocket. If you get a 11 tooth clutch, you will have a final ratio of 80/11 = 7.27:1. A 12 tooth clutch will give you 80/12 = 6.66:1. Both ratios will probably be OK for you.

So now you will know the pitch of your existing sprocket (usually a #35 or #40/41 chain). You will then have to go out and buy a 3/4 bore clutch with the appropriate pitch that will fit your rear sprocket. You then have to buy the same pitch chain that will go with your sprockets.

Have a look at this sticky as well. It has loads of info that people have provided.
