Hello everyone, I aquirred a 3/4" bore clutch, and my Honda GX-160 Clone has a tapered shaft with out a key way, so i filed the keyway out of the clutch, and i broke a rule of don't hammer the clutch onto the shaft w/ a rawhide mallet, and now it's stuck. Why would a 3/4" clutch slide on or off a 3/4" shaft? i emery papered the shaft and its rust free, i also put a light coat of grease to help put the clutch on and that didn't help. Now i hav penetrating oil on the shaft. will that loosen up the clutch? :mad2:

no worries, i got it off. how do i tell if the clutch is damaged? i spun it while holding it, and it rotated fine without any rubbing sounds.

Make sure the inside bore of the clutch is smooth ie. no swarf from the shaft is jammed onto it causing a tight fit on the shaft, slightly file it down with a file to remove any. This happen to me when i was fitting bearing onto a shaft, they would no go on, as the bearing bore was clogged up, (invisible to my eye but not to the shaft)
