Comet torque converter spring failure, please help.

Hey everyone I have a yerf dog 3202 kart with a briggs raptor racing engine and I use a comet 30 series clutch with a torque converter. This afternoon I was running it around the yard and I was messing with the settings on the driven unit and set it to 1. After doing this I went around the yard a few times and the spring blew out of the torque converter. Anyone know why this happens? I've done some research but nothing tells me the cause of the spring blowing out. I'm running a 60 tooth sprocket that is driven by the torque converter with 18 inch tall tires mounted on 6 inch rims. I don't have any pictures sorry.

Thank you very much, after looking closer I did make an error I didn't put the retaining clip on all the way thus making the 2 plates separate enough to loosen the spring and cause it to fail.

Yea the spring is tweaked pretty bad but I rewound it the best I could. Just took it out for a few laps around the yard and it works just fine. I ordered a new spring just to be safe.
