hi i have a go cart that i have been working on. finally got it bolted in and after a huge dilemna got the throttle set up right. the motor is a HF 6.5 clone in a yerf dog 3208 go cart. i am now having trouble lining up my torque converter. i was wondering if there was a way other than by just eyeing it to check how its lining up. i bolt it up get on a ride it but after like 1 minute of riding it, t/c starts to smell like rubber and ive actually messed up one belt already. any help is appreciated.

Assuming that you have a series-30 tav, looking from the rear of the cart, the right side, or engine side halves of the pullies should line up. The engine shaft is 3/4" and the jackshaft is probably 5/8". Use washers, or "machine spacers" to get the alignment correct.

Also, make sure that you have the correct belt, and the bronze sleeve on the driver pulley that the belt rests on.

Re:still struggling

hello thanks for reply.i do have the 30 series with the specs you said. i have bought a spacer and a washer which end up bein .625" long. the factory spec calls for .63. i think it is close enough. i have tightened my chain. my problem has gotten better but it still smells a little bit like rubber. is there some kind of lube im supposed to use to help this? another problem i have is now that i took the converter and put it back on, the go cart wants to roll as soon as i crank it. i was not having this problem before. could a loose belt be the cause of this? also is there a certain amount the t/c spreads open to engage belt. mine seems to be able to open alot squeezing the belt what i believe is too much. any help will be appreciated.

FWIW, I've never used a lube on my TAV-2 in the 2 years I've used it. I saw in an earlier post you had some throttle issues. Any chance the idle is too high (throttle cable misadjusted), causing the converter to engage?

I was thinking the same. It could also be that your driver pulley needs cleaning / lube. is there a bronze sleeve on your driver pulley? You need one there.

re:comet t/c

hello thanks to all who have responded. i don't believe it is throttle issues. my throttle lever pops back when i release petal. what type of lube should i use on driver? someone told me i needed some kind of graphite type lube. what would you all suggest? also i had mentioned that when i do gas it up my torque converter expands a lot pressing up alot on my belt. is there a certain limit that my t/c is going passed. i thought it only should open only as far as when belt is engaged. any more insight will be appreciated. thanks again

re:loosen screw

hello yea ive tried to loosen the screw i have a HF 6.5 clone. on other threads people have mentioned a black screw on carb. on my engine it does nothing. i have even backed it out all the way to the point its come out with no change to engine idle, whether idle up or down. is there another one i should be trying to adjust that im simply not aware of? thanks for response

check youir engine manual, if you are adjusting the correct idle screw with no effect, then your throttle cable is too tight.
