Can anyone tell me if this is a proper preload on the comet 20 series driven spring? The video I watched was for a 30 series and said to go counter clockwise that did not seem to work for me so I preloaded clockwise.

simple..
preload has to be done in a matter to TIGHTEN the spring (pulling the coil windings closer together, NOT apart)

so for a clockwise wound spring clockwise,
for an anticlockwise spring anticlockwise.

easy, huh?

One valley for all TCs (move the cam past one button[-set] into the very next valley)

The spring would tighten both ways, counter or clockwise. When I set the cam the first time doing it counter, the springs seemed all bunched up and were rubbing when rotated. I did it clockwise and it seemed normal. The way this one is mounted on jackshaft is cam facing toward motor.

Nope it would not tighten both ways (it's resistant both ways, yes.. but that's not tightening)
here.. that's a comet series 20 spring

it's clockwise wound, it'd tighten clockwise and loosen up counterclockwise

check against your spring (coil direction, NOT COLOR!)
and you should know what to do.
