I orders a max torque centrifugal clutch a few months ago and just put it on. It seemed like it took alot higher RPM to engage than my old clutch. That is exactly what I didn't want. Is there a way to adjust the clutch to make it engage at lower RPM. How low can I go? Why dont they engage at lower RPMs? This pisses me off. I should have got a torque converter. Too late though.

your springs were probably worn in your old clutch, so it engaged lower and easier, with new stiff springs, it will be much higher.

if you could find a lower tension spring and replace it would work. but y would you want to engage at a lower rpm?

I believe he rides off-road quite often with a gear ratio leaning towards lacking torque, I'd think he lacks takeoff speed.

then i would use a higher engine rpm clutch to gain the extra torque beause the comet willl achieve a greater engagement. it a little longer to the engine to rev up but the take willl be better.

I don't understand. I was thinking exactly what Blazkowiez said, but I don't understand why a higher RPM engagement would help me at all. When I pressed the gas, it seemed like it took alot of rev. to start moving. I am thinking that that really cant be good on the clutch. The other thing is that I fear I will have to give it so much throttle to just move that I will be digging ditches with a 1 wheel peel again

Dave, this is harder on the clutch to engage at a higher rpm. Technically though stalling the rpm before engagement you attain a higher horsepower and more torque for a faster take-off. I know you have much more aggressive tires now, what size is your sprocket for that 15" tall tire?

60 tooth, and the problem is that the sprocket only an inch or two away from the end of the tire. How much wider is a 66 tooth?

With a new MaxTorque standard SS clutch you should have no engagement issues or torque issues. You will not be needing a clutch that engages earlier, it begins to engage at 2,000 rpm which many engines have troubles idling lower than 1600-1800 rpm. You want your kart to be able to sit and idle safely.

No, I'm not aware of one that exists for your bolt pattern in 1/2" pitch, we've got 66t sprockets in 3/8" pitch but this is a very different size.

Ok,I got the sprocket and clutch lined up good now, I'm just going to put the old clutch back on that bad boy. The thing is, dat old cheaper clutch seems to be worn and somes times makes a squicky noise when I spin it. Is there any thing I can do short of buy new clutch parts to make it better?
