Hey there, I have a comet 40 converter and was wondering if it's ok for the driven pulley to "float" on the jackshaft or do I need to make it solid and in line with the driver pulley. Thanks.

The only common driven units tha I am aware of that are supposed to float are the maxtorque units that came on the old thunder karts (20 series symmetrical). If you did make the driven unit float, you would need a can of dry lube (made with ptfe), giving it a quick spray every so often.

I have a 40 series made by comet and it does not float.

The Comet manual specifically states that the drive unit must NOT float. It says nothing about the driven. Examining the concept carefully, I actually think it would be okay. I would think that lubing the shaft is the way to go.

That's kinda what I thought. I will only float on the shaft about a 1/4 inch. The way I see it as long as everything is squared up the floating will help center the belt between the driven sheaves. When I take it for a spin that will tell.

Well, I just test drove the buggy and the driven clutch floating on the jackshaft works just fine. It actually self centers the belt. It's feels good when something I don't know about works like it supposed to.
