ok guys, just to clarify,
the red spring on the driven on a FORTY SERIES determines orientation. The torque. converter is in fact oriented correctly ...if it has a red spring
The yellow spring, is the one that the forty series uses to have it run like the 30 series.
So, either way, the direction of the driven unit depends on spring so its not wrong either way as long as it has the center to center distance within spec for the belt.
Also, the cam rests on one side of the wear buttons with the red, and the opposite side of the wear button for the yellow.
And to sum it all up with the floating thing, I was going to say that the only model of go kart i have seen with the free floating driven was my old thunderkart with the 20 series unit on it. So what do we have here? Same thing, a Bristers thunderkart. It also had that ridiculously long space between the jackshaft bearing and the jackshaft sprocket, just like in the picture of yours.
So as far as free floating goes, I don't think it matters. Also, if you cant disassemble it and its seized, id just get a wire wheel (not wire cup, wheel) on my angle grinder to remove the rust, spray some teflon dry lube in there and see if it works back and forth. The drive units on the 40 series and 30 series torque converters usually have all the problems, and the driven units usually dont have many problems. Hopefully you have the right belt and driven unit on there. The weird thing about those tecumseh engines is even up to that 11 hp engine, it still has the small block mounting dimensions. Crazy.
