Hello,

I just purchased a new 13 hp engine to replace my 5 hp engine. I wish to use my existing torque converter which is a comet 30 series. My problem is my current driver is bored to 3/4 in. and my new shaft is 1 in. It looks like I am forced to get a new driver which leaves me with 2 questions. First, can a 30 series handle 13 hp? If not what will happen or what will fail? Second, should i just get a 40 or a 44 series? I am reluctant to get and entire new torque converter because they are much more expensive than I thought and my funds are limited. I am new to this site and have never done anything custom to my Manco Dingo since i got 6 years ago. Any insight or advice will be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

if it can handle the HP get a i inch bore sproket then to a jackshaft thats 3/4 then make sure there the same anmount of teeth and put a chain on there then put the tq on the jack shaft then have another one for the other pull to the other sprocket to the axle sprocket.

I already have a working torque converter and all the necessary components. I am simply replacing my existing engine with a bigger one that has a 1 in. shaft instead of a 3/4 in. shaft. I do not know if a comet 30 series torque converter can handle 13 HP. If it could handle the HP, then I would rather get a 1 in. 30 series driver for $100 opposed to a 40 series driver, driven, and belt for several hundreds of dollars. My main question is can it handle the power?

I'd stick with the 30 series then if you decide you're not happy with it's performance you can upgrade and recoup most of your money by selling the entire 30 series setup. Here's a 1" bore for under $90 http://www.quickieparts.com/go-kart...-30-series-1-inch-bore-asymmetric-driver.html and if you bought a belt from them it'd be over $99 so you'd get free shipping. I've purchased from them before and have no complaints.

Comet must under rate their stuff because the 30 series are only rated for 8 HP. Is this true? Also, what would I gain by upgrading to the 40/44 series? I am new at this!

They have bigger belts so they're stronger and have more friction surface so they can handle more power. Of coarse heavier pulleys and bigger belt mean more power loss from the drive system so you wouldn't want to use them unless you actually need the extra strength. I think 13hp will be pushing the upper limits for the 30 series but as long as you go easy on the throttle it should handle the power.
