Comet Clutch Replacement Buttons Don't Fit

Just ordered six new genuine Comet 20/30 series clutch buttons from BMI.
Their cylindrical shaft is supposed to fit flush, with a bit of pressure and some hammering, into the clutch plate holes.

But the shafts of the replacements are clearly thicker than the originals, and cannot even be hammered in with lots of force:
My originals (nice, tight fit) measure 6.0mm ø, the replacements 6.4mm.

Has anyone else had the problem of not being able to hammer replacement buttons into a 20/30-series Comet clutch?

that's a shame...

But not a huge problem either tbh..
just find a threading die for 1/4" bolt threads...
use it on the plastic buttons and you should be able to press them in.
the die should barely remove any material (being 6.35 mm on it's peaks)
but it should remove just enough (in the valleys) to leave you with a tight fit
once pressed in,
just don't break the thread, otherwise you could end up with a loose fit ;)

Thanks, I may resort to this.
But I really would like to find out first, why in the world no one has ever mentioned not being able to fit standard (?) replacement buttons into the standard holes of a standard Comet clutch! As is, the oversized buttons would break at the shank, if I would try to hammer them into holes that are clearly too small.
