I noticed this kart on Craigslist. I have a similar kart but my jackshaft is towards the rear of the kart while this ones is towards the seat. With the clutch system also in a different position than mine (my driven is towards rear). Looking at these pictures is it safe to say on this kart the driven clutch would spin counterclockwise? Isnt that wrong?

Isnt the clutch supposed to be set up so the drive pulls the driven? In the position of this karts set up wouldnt it create a much higher chance for belt slip due to the driven pulley, axle etc being dead weight on initial throttle application which would cause the belt to do as in my poor drawing.

Other than visual, there is no difference in operation.
I can understand confusion but do not know how to explain it.
The position of driven has no bearing on operation. Driven can be set to vertical and will still operate as intended. There is no best or optimum way.
The "pushed" and "pulled" parts of belt have not changed, only their relative positions have changed.

i have a question on this. what would happen if the driven was reversed on the jack shaft. (ie the spring would be towards the engine)

I may have to investigate my kart a little closer, the previous owner replaced the engine and if the clutch system will react no different being flip flopped due to engine and jackshaft orientation it would seem better for the battery placement and some room between seat and engine, now my engine is real close to the seat.

If you have the one type of belt the angle would be on the wrong side of the driven pulley I think. Thats all I got :surrender:

If your pulleys spin counterclockwise then no the driven will not open in that configuration.

You need to know if you need a symmetric or an asymmetric belt.

Your pulleys will match the belt, one flat side and one angled or both angled.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't that a Manco Dingo? IIRC, Dingo's were only released with either a 5hp or 8hp B&S engine, never a 10hp electric start Tecumseh, which means that is not the original setup so, at some point, a PO has changed the entire drive train & set it up to their needs...

What I'm trying to say is pay no attention to that setup because it's not original anyway but, obviously, it still works...

The driven is on backwards, if I'm not mistaken. I can't tell for sure from the picture, but it also appears that there's quite a bit of misalignment between the pulleys which would also be corrected by flipping the driven.
