I have a centrifugal clutch on my kart it looks like the teeth are worn and it makes a poping sound when I accelerate. I try to keep a 1/4 inch of play in the chaine, but when i run it , it will pop a couple times and then have 3/4 of an inch of play and the chain is jumping all over the place. 12 tooth clutch, 60 tooth sprocket, 16 x 6.00 x 6 tire. , 6.5 HF engine

I get the feeling the popping is the chain jumping teeth. Also, mark the outline of your motor's foot print and go run it again. Is your motor moving and causing the additional slack?

Thanks for the help guys, it's a Hilliard clutch, brand new chain, I'm pretty sure it's the motor moving, and I'll probley be ordering some rebuild parts.

Maybe some new teeth for the clutch and really crank down the motor? What about some lock washers?

going to order new bushing and sprocket for my cluctch, I also raised the engine a inch and threequarter and moved it rearward as the sprockets were only a half inch apart. I found the post about distance between sprocket centers, mine calculated out to 15 inches, center to center, the best I could do was 11 inches but it seems to be a lot better than it was.
