Clutch Popping?

Building a kart and finally got to take it for a test drive today. I have a 6.5 predator motor and bypassed the governor. I have a 12 tooth centrifugal clutch with a 35 chain and a 72 tooth sprocket. From a dead stop or a rolling accelaration the clutch is making a consistent popping sound until it gets up to speed. Pretty sure it's coming from the clutch, but I have a small suss****ion the chain may be skipping. Not sure if thats possible without it coming off. Question is what could it be? The ratio is proper, the chain is the right pitch and all that, and the clutch and motor or brand new. Of note the very first time I started it while it was on jackstands and gave it some gas the clutch threw sparks twice. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I goofed up the chain when trying to remove a link today so I don't have a picture to show anymore of it set up. I ended up bending the chain link causing me to have to remove two links instead of the one. Now it's to short, so I will have to pick up some extra master links tomorrow. I did tear down the new clutch and included a picture of that. It seems pretty dry. Where should I add lubricant at before reassembling?

No lubricant for assembly...
Only oil the bushing when fully assembled, and only at the snap ring that holds the drum on the shaft...
Just a couple of drops every 2hrs of use...

I'm not sure that this is the case. But my mini bike did the same thing. It was because the wheel sprocket was not in line with clutch sprocket ( chain was out of line).

Good catch. I picked up the pieces I was missing last night in order to fix the chain. Reassembled the clutch, chain, and drive wheel and noted that they weren't aligned either. I straightened out that issue but haven't had the opportunity to test drive it yet. hopefully today I'll get a chance. When I do I will follow up on here with the results. Thanks for the help everyone.
