Clutch or Torque Converter?

I would like to build a kart that seats 2 adults. I will power it with anywhere from a 5 to 9 hp. I dont want to go that fast, just cruise around the pasture. Would a clutch work or is there going to be too much weight for it?

Torque converters are awesome if you can afford one, whats your budget and wanted top speed?

I am not scared to spend money if I have too, but I don't want to go crazy. This is just something that I am going to tinker with building on the weekends. I just got a 6.5 hp from harbor freight today. I just want to make something that will carry 2 big dudes and go about as fast as a golf cart. I don't know if a clutch could take the weight.

your gonna have to gear it way down with a clutch. and if you have to buy all the stuff for a jackshaft to do so you might as well go for the torque converter. i figure if treated right they can last forever and they hold most of their value if you should decide to sell it.

I think if you do a centrifugal clutch with a 2 seater, then you will regret it. Go with the a TAV2.

After staying up way later than I should have reading posts I have decided to build something different. I want to stand out so I will make a lazyboy, barstool, or cooler kart. Now that it will be a one person ride I am guessing that a clutch would be no problem?

The 3.5 is on an edger and runs awesome. The 5 is on a tiller and surges a bit. The 5.5's are not on anything but are fairly new. I would like to start the 8hp but the pull cord is broke and I have not had time to fix it yet. I am going to pick one and make a cooler kart. I will tear the engine down and rebuild it. I am not sure if I am going to trick it out yet. What engine is the most bullet proof? I just want something that I can rebuild once and take care of it and it will last forever. I also have 2 new 6.5 clones still in the box.
