Clutch offset

Hoping someone can help me here. I have an Arctic cat 440 off an 87 el tigre that I put on the kart I built. I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on proper clutch offset and center to center distance? I think it's a little off at the moment and it's all acting pretty erratic secondary not disengaging at times. I have a feeling it's either too much tension or my offset is quite right. Or it could be that the clutch is just too worn. What gets me is when it's not under load it operates the way it should. I've searched google and can't seem to find a straight answer

Belt offset is easy.. try to approach ZERO offset in rest (it's symmetric and will stay at zero shifting up..)
According to the Arctic cat manual allowance is essentially zero as well,
and they also allow for no more than 1.5mm of float on the driven (and request the least possible amount)

Center to Center distance is a bit more difficult..
the Jackshaft was fixed to the engine, and thus the center distance was fixed by design, and they didn't cared enough to mention it anywhere.
the best thing would've been to read it from the original jackshaft and copy that distance over to the new mounting position.

the original belt is 110-111cm in Outer circumference, so rather short really
with the 10.75" diameter of the driven the distance will be rather small too

Now, the common rule of thumb is, the belt should be snug, but not tight nor loose.

remove the outer half of the driver clutch and check that the belt when pulled towards the driver
has around 1/8" of clearance around the driver pulley's shaft..
easiest is to get a bendable 1/8" material (say a strip of aluminium)
install it as a shim tightly around the driver shaft,
pull the belt tight (not too excessively),
lock the driven in place, remove the shim and call it good.
