Clutch mounting

Figuring out how I would install my clutch, I saw these guys who installed it "backwards" and I have no idea if its good or bad for the clutch. Any ideas?

It's completely your preference in which way it's mounted; it can be frontwards or backwards.

With it backwards, it provides some small measure of protection compared to "frontwards"; the chain is further inboard and away from you but your pants leg is more apt to get caught in the teeth if it's mounted frontwards.

To be serious though, you should have a chain/clutch guard to cover all those moving parts up--unless you like to live dangerously.

Actually they make clutches that are inboard or outboard mount specific.

They do......Single and multi plate cent clutches are typically inboard... Reduced bore 1" shaft cent clutches are outboard...

Inboard is preferred if possible. It will reduce the stress on the crankshaft. With fun kart stuff not a big deal, whatever it takes to get proper chain alignment.

Higher horsepower and RPM combined with racing clutches (can have a abrupt engagement) it becomes more of an issue. Like breaking off the end of your crankshaft.
