was looking at a customers clutch master cylinder the other, and it was for a 1989 Toyota pickup, 4 banger. it is cast metal and for 22 bucks includes a reservoir. seems like it might be perfectly in the middle for builds that are too big for cart parts and too small for a full blown car brake m/c. it has a 5/8" bore and looks sorta like a small wilwood or universal single port, but less than half the cost. either way wanted to put that out there for the masses to think about, see if theres any opinions. I'm currently using a m/c from a chevette, and its like pushing a brick wall, I am redoing my brake system in more ways than one and this seems like it might be a better fit for my new calipers. (previously only had one caliper in the middle)

That right there could work very well for me, thanks! Do you think there is any way you could rig it to have a remove reservoir? Aside from that it looks perfect.

per say, no badot, but most motorcycle m/c are for 1 caliper, I am running 2 in the back in my new layout, so a little more fluid moving will keep my pedal travel good... oh yeah, and price and availability!

if you want a remote reservoir setup, there are a couple that already have the hose barb, i spent some time window shopping the boxes in the back at the parts store. i just liked this one because it was metal and had the reservoir included so I didn't have to spend more (oh yeah and its cheap and in stock locally)

you can always pop it apart and take out the guts, and tap it for a NPT hose barb, flush and put the guts back in, but they do have some with barbs already, but they dont usually include tanks and I would guess may or may not be as cheap.

I guess remote res is a bit more expensive... I will probably just try to figure out a way to make something work. Would you say having 4" of clearance from the aluminum body to the top of the res would be fine? I'm planning to run 4 wheel brakes so a larger mc would be good, although I'm about 90% sure a stock CBR1000 rear mc is 16mm, so that could possibly work too.

Thanks!

its pretty close to that 4", I dont have it in front of me right now but its worth going and having a measure at a parts store. the one I got is branded powertorque at oreilly's. pn# cm1203

another one that might be closer, a 1985's nissan pickup has a different style reservoir that didn't have the legs up, might be better for you. $25.99 price tag around here

Thanks, that one looks great, I'm sure I can make it work one way or another. I will allow 5" when designing the buggy.

That's only got one outlet port? I thought ALL automotive M/C's had dual outlets for safety reasons: front / rear brakes. I swapped out the single-outlet "mason-jar" M/C on my '62 Ranchero to a dual outlet one because of safety.

Hmm...O'Reilly has rebuilt "Mason Jar" M/C's for only $19 w/ a $12 core...the way these things are built they'd prolly last forever on a kart, even if you beat on them.

also trailer brake master cylenders look exactly like that toyota on but are 5/8 or 3/4 bore

but the trailer m/c is made to sit out in the open and get pelted with stones so it is an all cast constrution with a screw on lid as apose to a push on

thats what most members run on the superlite buggies

also if u need two ports then u can get a double bango bolt thatll bolt down two lines (left and right )

edit

notice the seal differance between the trailer m/c and the older clutch m/c
