Clutch keyway

This is my first go cart build and I just received my clutch in the mail. I noticed the key was not the full length of the bore. It is only about 25%. Is this normal?

Yup I got the same clutch with the same key and I had no problems.

Is there a reason for the short key?

Some shafts have a milled keyway via a round mill cutter leaving a rounded end like a ramp. The clutch wouldn't otherwise fit all the way towards the motor.
