Clutch help

The rear axle should have about 30t to make a reasonable ratio for the clutch... 7.2:1

You'll need a plate for the jackshaft to sit on.. either welded in or you could clamp it in... You'll have a good amount of space, depending on your ability to do so...

Here is a breakdown of a later model 2 seater Manco kart with a belt/torque converter setup. This one calls for a 9 tooth sprocket and a 60 tooth sprocket. Not sure if this will help but hopefully it will give you something to go by. Also check with Ray Williams at Reliable Go Karts & see if he may have any parts left over.

So the factory set up is 10t clutch to 35 t jackshaft , then 8t jackshaft to 27t axle. So it's a 3.5ish to 1ratio. So as long as I keep it close to that I should be good? The cart has 145/70-6 tires all the way around. So with such a small tire the 3.5-1 ratio be ok?

Karttekk, thanks for the break down, it's a 435. I think trying to get a torque converter set up would be completely redoing the rear axle assembly.

What I see there is a 11.8:1 ratio... That should be good for most tires...
With that being said... What is the actual measured OD of the rear tire... Not sidewall size(this off hand doesn't say the OD)...

The od of the tire is just under 44" for a brand new tire. Mounted and inflated

Isn’t it 6.875:1?

35/10=3.5
27/8=3.375
3.5+3.375=6.875

EDIT:
Wait 11.8:1 is with the 145mm/5.7” tires on?

I realize it's a 435. What you're running into is a typical situation when parts are no longer available for obsolete karts. Completely re-doing the whole axle assembly is something you inevitably may have to do or go through what you're going through now; fabricating parts, trying to match up ratios and gearing. Sometimes a complete re-do makes more sense in the long run.

IM sorry..... 44".... Im sure you probably meant 14".....And to be sure we are understanding each other.... OD is Outside diameter....Not circumfrance(as in around the tire).... No.

Ahh yes... That ratio... Should be fine with that tire size... Won't be a real fast runner but it'll have a good go off the start...

So then I could have a clutch with 10 teeth, to a 24t gear on the jack shaft, then from the jackshaft a 10t gear going to the 24t gear/hub on the axle shaft? Or what would you recommend?

5.760:1....that could work... But the problem, is finding a sprocket with a bore size that'll work with the jackshaft dia... Also small diameter sprockets have more of a wearing life and are prone to breakage due to there size and stress placed upon them.
