Clutch help??

I'm building a go kart with a riding mower engine in it. I have a 5 speed tranny and I need help coming up with a clutch to keep it from moving when I start it.

Loose fitting belt, use spring tensioner to put tension on belt, add pedal to remove tension.

Your gonna need the clutch to shift it too.

Spring tensioner, like what is already found on a riding mower, going to be a little tricky rigging it but thats the only one I could think of, also I cant shift when moving since the axle is directly connected to the tranny and the tranny can't be spinning.

who said that? we have a riding mower with a regular 5pd tranny and i shift on the go all the time. downshifts are alot trickier and i rarely get that right

Yea it can, you might need to double clutch but it will shift with the cart moving.
