Are you planning to move to a jack-shaft assembly to correct the gearing problems of running directly from the clutch to the main drive sprocket?

If not then it would be quite similar to starting a car in 5th gear, you'll be smoking that clutch almost instantly if I'm reading this right.

Do you happen to have a Yerf-Dog go kart? Is there a reason you are moving away from the vastly superior torque converter?

8" wheel, and what size tire?
is this a legitimate 2 speed belt drive, or a torque converter?
and is this a max torque torque converter, or a max torque centrifugal clutch?

Blaz I have a new HF 6.5 and new clutch I put together 2 days ago on a gokart w/big tires and at idle(sitting still) its burning the clutch. I can lift up the back end and the tires spin pretty fast and it seems not to smoke as much. I guessing I need to lower the idle but im not sure where the idle screw is and I didnt want to mess with it 'cause it starts so nice.

Please help its for my 8yr old son.
Thanks

Pop on a new thread and post some pictures of your set-up and we'll give you some gearing answers. Your problem is amazingly similar to what this gentleman has but the solutions will most likely be different if he has just removed his torque converter and you never had one.
