Clutch for 8hp Briggs

Newbie here <--- I finally managed to fix the carb on my 8hp briggs, and now im looking for a cheapish clutch with a 1 inch bore. Im also having trouble removing the old pulleys that rusted themselves to the shaft, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My attempts at removing the pulleys :mad2:

By the looks of it, you're really cutting on your shaft. You might want to make a second cut on the other side of the pulley to make it two pieces. Then take a hammer and pin/wedge and tap each side off. It should come off easier then.

I havent cut into the shaft at all yet, I started the cut with my grinder and finished with a dremel, ill cut the other side today after school and post results

Okay good, In the pick, it looks like you touched the shaft a couple times, my fault. But yeah, cutting the pulleys in two should break away most of the rust holding it there.

Two choices: centrifugal clutches or a comet torque converter.
Clutch would be $100+ for a 1" model, comet tav2 would be around $190.
I have hear good things about noram clutches. What terrain and what speed are you looking for?

Ill be using it on the road(some dirt roads) and I was looking for a speed around 35-40ish

You'll want a CVT (torque converter) and tall gears to get there. Have you played around with the speed, gearing, tire size, rpm calculators? Seriously, 40 is going to be faster than you think, especially on a dirt road.

It really helps to have proper tools if you're going to be removing pulleys and gears. It doesn't cost much to get a screw-type gear puller or a slide hammer, and you'll find a lot of occasions to use it if you keep working on go karts.

I can tell you that 45 on loose gravel, potholes, and washboard with no suspension can get downright scary!

I got the first pulley off with a pry bar, grinder, and lots of WD-40. Ive got a friend thats going to help me with the second one he said he knows a trick.

Im not intending to go 45 on the dirt roads, I just want a top speed around there for the paved roads.
