clutch engagement

My 5hp Tecumseh came with a clutch already on it. When I start it the clutch engages straight away. If I start while on a stand the wheel will turn, if I start on the ground it will start rolling. And if I start and jump on, it will die.

well then sounds like you need a clutch.

sounds like its stuck engaged but it couldn't hurt to tear into and have a look, maybe you can get it working again with a little effort!

Saw this one says for 79cc, guessing a 5hp is bigger.

a 35Tooth clutch? most certainly not.. you mean #35 chain, right?

but you can buy a maxtorque clutch with 5/8" bore
just about everywhere.
gopowersports sells them so does BMI or mfgsupply

I'd not suggest buying random stuff from ebay though, can be a good thing, but can also be a total loss.
(terrible quality, horrifically overpriced)

maxtorque clutches are rather cheap and of very good quality!

you can also pick a Hilliard clutch it's a bit more expensive usually but will also serve you well.

Agreed,

buyer beware on Ebay. Especially as of late...well, in general...but lots of the parts sellers there tend to vend from off shore markets and my experience has been that some seem to really over rate their products.

I suggest buying from a reputable dealer. I say this from experience. I ain't saying all of them are bad. Don't get me wrong. But if I want a certain item, and I want it to be a quality product delivered right the first time I skip ebay unless I know and trust the seller.

amazon sellers are the exact same chinese retailers that offer their stuff on ebay (usually for cheaper)

and while "prime" has some nice return policy.. it's not making the cheap products any better.

sticking with a quality clutch (MaxTorque, Hilliard, Noram)
is important, the platform you get it from IS NOT
(can be ebay or amazon if you so desire)
but both are NOT A GOOD PLACE to search for viable options;
since you will get spammed with chinese search results of the "miserable quality"-type

why yes I get that. but it is much easier to return with prime than a seller on eBay. thats what i was meaning.

well, sure if you have a prime account that's true..
in case you haven't it's more of a "mixed results" situation (as with ebay)

amazon itself is selling close to nothing these days, and as a platform it's as much of a pain to use as (if not worse than) ebay
amazon is very prone to keyword spamming and false results and 'sponsored' [aka paid positioned] results

So if you want to have a good return policy..
a prime account on amazon is a good idea.

But tbh.. I'd rather buy the right stuff right away
and thus tend to skip amazon more often than not searchign for it.
(and I do have a prime account )
