Clutch and torque converter?

What the difference between the 30 series and 40 series clutches and torque converters? Is one better than the other?

series 30 or series 40 ARE torque converters.

series 30 is an asymmetric 3/4" wide belt type TC;
with a 6" driven (7" available)
lowest internal ratio 2.7:1
highest raio 0.9:1
max rated for 8HP.

the series 40 is slightly larger with a 7/8" wide symmetric belt;
with a 7.5" driven (8.5" available)
lowest internal ratio 2.43:1
highest ratio 1:1
max rated for 18HP

The larger driven pulleys change the ratio; but frankly those large diameters are rarely ever seen around here.

a centrifugal clutch has NO internal ratio, it's 1:1 fixed;
with the exception of a wet clutch which can be had with an internal ratio of 2:1 (still fixed though)
