Clutch and sprocket help

Ok so the sprocket on my axle has 30 teeth and has half inch pitch, old motor that is shot has just a sprocket on the shaft that has 16 teeth, what size clutch do I need and chain to work with my sprocket on the axle? Any help is appreciated

With that ratio, you will not even accelerate downhill. Put up a couple pics of the kart, along with rear tire diameter, and your intended riding conditions, and we will help you figure out a suitable ratio.

your gonna need a centrifugal clutch.

A good average ratio is a 10/12 tooth clutch and a 60/72 tooth axle sprocket.

I might put 15" on rear if the guy still has them, so I can use a 12 tooth clutch? Will I need to worry about ground clearance with a sprocket that big? And what chain? Size?

Sorry for all the posts, I think I'm gonna go with the 6.5 predator ($120) or a used 5 hp Tecumseh($40)

What is your intended terrain?

Depending on results, you'll probably be better to select a 10T clutch.

Sorry, I'd missed that. Another reason to avoid multi-posting.

Anyways- You are best off getting a rear sprocket of 60-72 teeth as suggested above. If you're aimed more towards long, interrupted high-speed runs, then nearer to 60T. If there's any hills or you think you'll be doing stops and starts and generally goofing off and having a good time, then a higher tooth count (towards 72) is for you.

. Ok so If I go with 72 then should I go with 10 or 12T clutch and what chain?

No I actually have to buy a sprocket and clutch, the sprocket that was on the axle was only 30T, so that's why I needed to know what size sprocket and clutch, does it matter if I get a 3/8 or 1/2" pitch sprocket?

What I want to know is how that kart ever moved with those sprockets on it?? The previous owner probably thought the engine was useless and decided to sell it.

I would buy chain that is longer than what you actually need. This means that if you need to adjust engine etc, you have enough chain. If it is a bit too long, then all you do is shorten it a bit. You are the only one who will know the approximate length that you need
