I have a new predator engine and a new clutch. I tightened down the clutch with the big bolt in the center of the shaft. I do have 2 set screws but there aren't any holes on the shaft for them.

Do i even need the set screws? Or am i doing something wrong?

Yes and no. ....do you have a keyway in the crankshaft and key that fits it and the clutch??????

If so. .... (and you should)....the set-screws are unnecessary. ....they are for applications where there is no end bolt......

I wouldn't do it without a key in place. ........they cost pennies and you can probably get one at Home Depot. ......

Clutches and crankshafts cost a wee bit more.........

Just sayin'.......

yep, i Have the keyway in and it fits. I was just worried about the set screws since they really don't do anything on my setup.

Maxtorque recommend either the end bolt or set screws, never both...

How come never both?

Ive been using both on my minibike clutches.. I figured the sets were a good back up and kept it from shifting if there was play at all..

Don't ask me, I'm just quoting what's on the label...

T Man did a vid on the subject... which I can't find right now...

Since I have the maxtorque label handy...

let me quote:
Set screws are only needed if the crankshaft is not drilled and tapped,
WHENEVER POSSIBLE ALWAYS HOLD THE CLUTCH ON WITH A BOLT AND WASHER.

underscores and capitalization taken from the label.

The thing is, I do not see any hint that you mustn't use both..
as far as I understand it there is no reason that you need both ...

Anything I miss here?

OK.. wasnt sure if there any other reason than not needing if bolted.

I have seen enough things rattle free on these rigs so I plan on using both still.

Well. ...this should be so obvious it doesn't need saying....but you never know who might be reading this. ...so.....the main bolt should be well tightened before the set-screws are. .......
