Self-contained CVT's like the Tav are "clockable", meaning they are designed to be mounted in more than one position. That particular model can be mounted forwards, backwards, up or down. You should have no problem with that. In your case, you'll probably be best mounting it pointing straight backwards, and then the chain will run forwards and downwards to the axle.

Thanks for the reply toystory. We are off to the TAV store.

I like your avatar. Here is my other toy, a 1940 "B" before a complete repaint this month.

Best Regards,
Mike and Gordon

Hi All,

One last question for this thread.

Where is a good source for the gear ratio calculations? All the way from engine crank RPM to tire diameter.

And, what is a good low gear ratio for a cart with 22" tires?

Thanks again,
Mike and Gordon

UPDATE

We bought a NOS Comet TAV on evil bay and did a bit of frame modififcaion. The cart goes quite well and Gordon has run through a few tanks of fuel so far.

The harness was in Kitty O'Neils Rocket powered dragster when she set a record at the Salt Flats. When I was building chassis in the late 70's I got the chance to mount a larger rocket engine in the car and the harness was upgraded to a 3" one and the old one was given to me.

Time to tear-down and paint.
