Clueless - Yamaha 175cc CT-1 "No spark"

Bought this for $105 shipped to my door (heavy as )

Cylinder looks good, no scorin'..

Problem was "no spark", and ran fine before that. What's missing? I see one coil, and one coil WIRE, but it has two spaces for the spark plugs (?!)... is there a second coil?

I plan on a COMPLETE rebuild of this to put on my old kart

Any help will be appreciated, pix be up in a sec

Search around for a wiring diagram, it is essential for working on or troubleshooting a CDI bike engine.

The second plug hole is for a decompression device, or so you can have a spare plug incase you foul the first one.

CDI or points?

A lot of bigger bike have a decomp in hole #2, or you can run a second plug for redundancy, foul the first and just move the coil wire over.

Uhm, I think CDI? It has a stator coil behind that flywheel/hub thing (I removed that and the stator thing... I'll go get pictures in a second)

Anyone know how to remove the clutch basket? I'd assume it'd slide right off but nope ):

Oscar, is that silicone..blue stuff on the motors case covering a possible crack? does anyone else see that or is it something else? Its on several of your pics. hope its not.

Nah, the previous owner (I'm assuming) decided not to part the case to fix a (possibly?) leaky gasket and just slathered over it completely... (didn't really work )

And my bad, it IS a points setup ): Anyone have the manual/stuffs where I can check anything? I'm at a dead end >_<

Home sealed gaskets? IDT that a case could be cracked that much and repaired with silicone.

Points ignition, I cant really describe how to wire it, but its really simple.

You can make your own easily, just a few wires, basically the fine wire ignition coil on the stator produces energy which runs to the igniton coil, then the points(which run to ground) break the circuit and the field collapses, SPARK! Don't forget the condenser, IIRC the condenser runs between the hot side of the points and ground.

You will need a service manual for timing specs, some go off points gap, others actually bother to tell you degrees or piston distance distance BTDC.
