I have a Hy-Spec 200cc 6.5hp electric start, oil alert engine. It does not seem to have a rectifier. When I compare it`s start switch assembly to one from a honda there are many less parts. The Honda has a key switch, circuit breaker, single fuse block, rectifier and something which connects to the oil alert system. The clone only has a key switch and circuit breaker. Shouldn`t there be a rectifier in there for charging the battery.

I also added a second charging coil from a 13hp clone, do I just crimp the 2 charging coil wires together. When I do this I am getting voltage from around 6 at idle to over 20 at wide open throttle.

I have an old honda starter key switch and can take it`s rectifier. It has 2 terminals, do I just put it inline in the white wire that curently goes from key switch to stater solenoid + terminal.

I just wanted to make sure that the chinese didn`t re-design these things with a rectifier built into the key switch or something. It is funny, I called the tech line for the engines and they said they are having a lot of complaints that the engines were not charging the batteries but could run lights.

Will I alsoi need a voltage regulator to keep the volts down to 14 or so, Is this something I could get from radio shack or an autmotive alternator rebuilder

after going through the wiring, I found a small diode under heat shrink that I thought was a bullet connector. Anyway with no battery I am getting 8voltdc and wide open (govenor removed) 30volts dc. I tried switching the chinese diode to the honda rectifier and there is no change. With the battery connected it will no go over 12.5 volts. Could I simply ad some sort of dc regulator, maybe from a ride on mower or something, could a regulator from an automotive alternator work? Thanks for any help.
